Robin Wrestles Will Stuteley at Gamewell

I had this version of Robin Hood as a kid and consumed it in big bites, made many meals of it. I love the myth in all versions - there are particular good spins on Hood in both Once and Future King and The Last Unicorn - but Wyeth's drawings will always be Robin to me.

I have read the once and future king more times than any other book. So that means it's a trillion times read. ha.

I love that novel so much.

What is weird about the pic is that the houses are completely anachronistic as against Robin and Will. The Robin Hood myth is reasonably clear as regards its time: late 12th century. The houses and wrought iron gate look 17th century or late 16th at the earliest.

All very odd as one of my fictional creations was fond of saying.

I was in elementary school when I got it. Maybe this just wasn't one I read you. I still have my copy.

WR: I don't think this was the most historically realistic version of Robin Hood that's floating around out there, but it was a damn fine adventure.

Did you know they're making another Robin Hood Movie? With Kate Winslett and Russell Crowe. Might be interesting.

My favorite is that one with Sean Connery and Audrey Hepburn. Robin and Marian, I think it was called.
