I did stumble on this little blurb: "1936 = Roadable helicopter. 1pOH; 40hp air-cooled engine. Coaxial rotor system with cyclic and collective pitch control. "Foot pedals actuated a hinged vane on the tail, counting on rotor downwash for yaw control." In a photo the helicopter is seen hovering, but no test results were found."

Waaaaant!
What the fuck are we waiting for?
where am I going to park this thing?
On the garage roof.
This is my all-time favorite photo right now. I can just wrap it up, go home, and die in peace.
You'd think I could find more about this, but no.

It's air cooled alright.
Ha!
Why aren't we driving these around right now? Obviously it mostly worked in 1940! We couldn't have perfected it by now? That pisses me off.
p.s.
let's build one.
I've been looking for instructions, but no go. It probably ran off of orphan baby hearts or something.
