My Goodness, My Spinach!


Sometimes it's extra obvious that spinach could be a stand-in for the devil alcohol, much beloved by squinky sailors everywhere.

I swear- I never thought of that. I thought it was just a way to get children to eat spinach.

I'm sure that was part of it, but c'mon - grizzled, pipe-smoking sailor guzzles something from a can and then gets into bar and dock fights? Hmmm.

Oh, definitely Guinness reference! Look at the drunken googly eyes of the ostrich! I mean, what other reason would Popeye be paired with an ostrich with a bunch of cans of "spinach" in its throat? Honestly.
