write what you know

Once you know that this is Robert Louis Stevenson, his wife Fanny, and friends, you know why this picture rocks my world.

All right. THIS is my favorite picture. Just for the story. Do you know where they were?

In the South Seas, on the Marquesas Islands.

Just chillin' and eatin' breadfruit, you know?

From other pictures I've seen of her, Fanny is the white woman.

He looks so mellow.

Great photo. He was dying of, some believe, TB at the time.... Other great writers of roughly same period killed untimely by TB: Chekhov, Kafka, D H Lawrence.

Under the wide and starry sky,

Dig the grave and let me lie.
Glad did I live and gladly die,
And I laid me down with a will.
This be the verse you grave for me:
Here he lies where he longed to be;
Home is the sailor, home from sea,
And the hunter home from the hill.

Bukowski had it, too, but it didn't kill him.
