Shake it, Lu-Lu!

If John Waters hadn't been born, someone would have had to invent him.

Reminds me of "You're the devil, Lucille," for some reason.

One could very easily have influenced the other.

I just ordered Cry-Baby on DVD today. My daughter's only real perspective on Johnny Depp has been based on Captain Jack. I'm working on correcting that. Not that I don't love me some Pirate movies.

Cry Baby is such a great flick. How old is your daughter? I would think you would want to also introduce her to Edward Scissorhands and What's Eating Gilbert Grape.

Yes. Both good suggestions, and I even have Edward Scissorhands already. I had her watch Benny & Joon a week or two ago and she was just a smitten as I was at 15. She's 13 and so many of the movies he's made in that time have been a little more than she's ready for (like Ninth Gate and Fear and Loathing, but she may be ready for that one in the next year or so) but she did see Finding Neverland. We are certainly looking forward to Alice in Wonderland.

Funny, I had forgotten about the DiCaprio character in Gilbert Grape. My daughter is mildly MR. I wonder what she will think of that character.

MR = mentally retarded

I don't know if that's obvious to people who don't have special needs kids.

I work in a state mental health office, so I knew what you meant. I thought that was a well done character, but I'm certainly not as close to the subject matter as y'all are. I just remember my sisters loving that movie.

It was well done. And she will probably like it. She'll probably tell me she want to take off and live in a camper.

Taking over your comment section!

I actually meant to ask you if you saw the remake of Hairspray with John Travolta in the Divine roll. I haven't seen it yet, but I am curious.

That Hank said...

Yeah, I saw it. It sucked. The music was lackluster. The actors were okay, but generally seemed bored (the girl who played Tracy did a good job for what she had to work with). It castrated the political points and scrubbed away all the dirtiness that made the original so much fun. It was a Disneyfied, cleaned up, pointless remake. And I won't even get into the fact that Travolta in a fat suit is so insulting to the sheer awesomeness that was Divine that I am surprised he wasn't struck by lightening. So there you go, my opinion on it.
