What is paregoric? I'll bet wikipedia will tell me.

I like that it's in Baltimore.

Yep, good ol' wiki:

Paregoric, or camphorated tincture of opium, also known as tinctura opii camphorata, is a medication known for its antidiarrheal, antitussive, and analgesic properties. It was a household remedy in the 18th and 19th centuries, when it was widely used to calm fretful children. In the 20th century its use declined as governments regulated it. Until very recently in the U.S., paregoric was a Schedule V drug, and was available over-the-counter in pharmacies in several states by simply signing a register/logbook.

Back when DTG was a baby, you could still buy paregoric over the counter. People bought it for many reasons, I am sure, but one of the main ones was to rub on the gums of teething babies. I never did that, although I knew people who did.

I think this scam worked by killing the addict. The grateful widow would ten send in her two dollars with a feeling of great relief.

Okay, I buy that. I mean, I wouldn't buy that, but I buy your reasoning on the scam.

Well there's stuff like antabuse doing the rounds today. Bet these guys weren';t licenced by the FDA, though!

If they cured all that shit, what would the point of living be? No thanks.

Too bad I was a beer drunk. Notice it doesn't mention beer? So I guess it's alright I went through all those motherfucking 12 steps.
Hey- love the new header, by the way.

SB: too true.

May: Thanks! You're the first one to say anything about it.

I don't know why I didn't say anything about the header. I really do like it a lot.

It may be too big. I'm tweaking it.
