I really want one of these in my backyard, like a little private bar and clubhouse. There's got to be plenty of them still around. I mean, I do live in Florida. Where are they?
Funny how even after we grow up and actually have our own apartments we still want a hole in the ground, or a house in a tree, or a hole in a tree to make into a clubhouse. A bomb shelter would make a really tidy one. I've never been in one. Maybe there aren't as many out there as we are led to believe.
From what I understand nobody really told anyone where their bomb shelters were and kept them pretty well hidden, so there are hundreds of them just waiting to be found. Start digging!
Also doubles as tornado and hurricane shelters. I still see the free-standing shelters like that in Alabama, dug into the ground, for the occasional tornado.
In Huntsville, AL, one of the German scientists brought over to develop the moon booster rockets stuck his house INTO the side of Montesano mountain. I don't know if it is still there. But I saw it with my own eyes. I coveted it seriously. He was said to be concerned about Russian nukes. Like that would save him!
That is one of the greatest things I have ever heard, Ms. Moon. If my son joins a band, I am going to have to build one for them. And demand they name their band that, "The Bomb Shelter."

I think this might be a bomb shelter. Oh yeah, those were the good ol' days!
Yeah, it's a bomb shelter, but now I want it as my clubhouse.

I know there are a few in Frenchtown. I almost rented a place with one once, but it was mostly full of water.

I'm going to look that up. I'm always into oddball homes.
My friend Mary Moseley's family had a bomb shelter and her brother's band practiced in it.
That makes perfect sense.
