Latchkey


Is "latchkey kid" even a common term anymore?

Latchkey is not in my vocabulary, but I don't really get out that much.

Latchkey kids are kids that comes home after school and have to take care of themselves until the parents get home from work. Lots of unlimited tv watching.

I'm afraid all those cartoons are very familiar.

I suspect these days it happens less. My friend didn't leave her son alone in the house to go to the shop til he was ten!

See, I was thinking the opposite. hat so many kids have two parents working now that it doesn't have to have its own term.
