Sometimes it's extra obvious that spinach could be a stand-in for the devil alcohol, much beloved by squinky sailors everywhere.

I swear- I never thought of that. I thought it was just a way to get children to eat spinach.
I'm sure that was part of it, but c'mon - grizzled, pipe-smoking sailor guzzles something from a can and then gets into bar and dock fights? Hmmm.
I hadn't thought of it either, but now that you say that, I'm smacking myself on the forehead.
The expression on his face is exactly the expression I had when I THOUGHT I had a six-pack of Guiness and discovered only one was left! Sneaky ostriches!
Love it!
Steph: obvious once you think about it, huh?
May: what happened to the other 5?
Leila: Guinness reference or coincidence - what do you think?
Oh, definitely Guinness reference! Look at the drunken googly eyes of the ostrich! I mean, what other reason would Popeye be paired with an ostrich with a bunch of cans of "spinach" in its throat? Honestly.
But how's he going to open those cans?
