You may be the coolest guy at the sf convention, Harlan, but you are still at the sf convention.

I don't know if it's ever cool for an author to be out and about with the name of one of his short stories on the back of his t-shirt.
Then again, he's got a dozen Hugos or so and a handful of Nebulas, so what the hell do I know?
I have to suspect that a fan had just given it to him. Otherwise, pretty much the definition of dorky.
Harlan Ellison is a great writer, mostly of science fiction. The shirt he's wearing in this picture, which was taken at an early sci fi convention, has the name of one of his better known stories. Which is pretty much amazingly dorky, even for a guy that wrote for Star Trek.
What's with the straps coming up off his waist? Were those some sort of weirdo overalls?
I think it's just a crazy tight belt and weirdly placed belt loops.
Nice to see a man wear a belt to make his high, tight pants even higher and tighter! That belt is the underline for his title.
It's like a tiny, little girdle.
