Is there a statue of a man sitting on her arm?

It's a ghost. What IS this?

Lady Liberty? What is that man?

It's the statue of Liberty's left arm. But about the man I know nothing.

It looks way cooler without its outer shell.

That Hank said...

Like a giant birdcage.

What a cool thing, to be one of those men. Do you suppose they had any idea what kind of a national treasure they were building? If the U.S. has a heartbeat, it surely bangs inside her metal chest.

Well said May, and very patriotic. And yes, a giant birdcage it is. Now I feel inspired to draw her that way. And draw a giant fucking bird inside her.

If you do, show it to us.

Looking again at this picture, what strikes me is how much work you had to do to get any work done. First, build ladders and saw horses. Then get started cutting lumber to size, you know?

The ladders and saw horses get reused, so you don't have to do that for every job.

That Hank said...

Yeah, but I bet for a job this big they knocked together a lot of that stuff on site.

It's like construction in Mexico. Still. Today. Right this second.
