skateboarding is still not a crime
Before the internet, zinesters were the historians, the legend writers, the ones spreading and recording scenes that the mainstream didn't give a fuck about. My favorite zines tend to look like this - cut and paste, blood sweat and tears.

Jody and the Flutter Mill
Jody drew a deep breath. He threw himself on the weedy sand close to the water and abandoned himself to the magic of motion. Up, over, down, up, over, down--the flutter-mill was enchanting. The bubbling spring would rise forever from the earth, the thin current was endless. The spring was the beginning of waters sliding to the sea. Unless leaves fell, or squirrels cut sweet bay twigs to drop and block the fragile wheel, the flutter-mill might turn forever. When he was an old man, as old as his father, there seemed no reason why this rippling movement might not continue as he had begun it.

Fisherman standing with a Giant Atlantic jewfish
That fish looks so much bigger than big fish normally look to me. I think because it just looks like a little fish that's been hit with an expando ray.

"How to murder, how to sell dope!"
I really wish I knew what this was about. The LIFE Magazine photo archive lumps it in with photos related to Chicago Gang Wars in the late 60s or early 70s. The rest of the shots are solemn-faced men or crying women leaning over caskets. But what about these two?

TRUCKING FIERCE
March 7, 1988, Divine was in LA to film some scenes for Married... With Children. That night, after going to dinner with friends and then back to his hotel room, he leaned over the railing and sang "Arrivederci Roma" to them as they left for home. That night he passed away. In his will, he requested that no one donate money anywhere in his name, but to send flowers instead. Divine to the end.

when in Rome
For some reason, I always enjoy pictures of famous people playing pool (or, in this case, snooker). Especially beautiful famous people, although I bet that little dog was an annoying sumbitch. I'm also willing to bet this is a staged shot, not just some down time between shots, because I'm pretty sure she's aiming for the wrong ball.

Cotillion Club members gathered on car for a group portrait
I'm fascinated by this photo. Back then, men weren't allowed at most on-campus social events at the FSCW. The Cotillion Club members were gals who dressed in men's clothing for dances, escorting their bosom friends, if you will.

scuba diver with flashlight in spring
So clear that it looks faked. For those who have never been there, the water coming out of the spring stays right around 70 degrees year round. That doesn't sound too cold until you're in it and can't catch your breath.
I just realized that I think they put this pic wrong side up. Shouldn't the bubbles be going toward the surface? And the light should be coming from above, not below. So I twisted it, and now I think it is correct.

eyehooks
I've been following quite a few image blogs lately, just collections people make and show of visuals they find interesting or arresting. So I thought I'd join in the fun. These are nothing more or less than photos and art that catch my eye.
